Overview

Built in the 16th year of King Munmu’s reign of Silla (676 AD) by Buddhist monk Uisang Josa, Buseoksa Temple of the Hwaeom Order of Buddhism is home to a considerable number of cultural assets, including Muryangsujeon Hall, the oldest wooden building in Korea, as well as five national treasures, six treasures and two provincial tangible cultural heritages, making it one of the ten major temples of Korea. The way the Temple embraces the natural scenery spreading out in front of the Temple’s compound reminds visitors of the serenity and mercifulness of Buddha, and helps everyone reach a state of selflessness.
